Racers Split Day Two to Drop Out of WHAC Tournament
SYLVANIA, OH - In the double-elimination WHAC Softball Tournament, UNOH came into day two having split with Cornerstone and Aquinas on day one and needing to win to stay alive. The Racers survived an eight-inning battle with Cleary, 4-3, to start the day but got shut down in game two, 2-0, to end their tournament run.
After retiring the side to begin game one, Anna Ankney ripped a two-run homer to put UNOH up early. The teams traded a run in the second before Cleary plated two in the third to lock the game 3-3 after three. The Racers didn't allow another hit over the final five innings with Carlie Hanes driving home the winning run in the eighth with a bases loaded RBI single to right.
Anna Ankney was perfect at the plate going 2-2 with two RBI and two walks. Hailee Edgell and Eden Roberts both went 2-4 with Roberts recording two RBI.
Karsyn McGlothen got the start and went three innings allowing three runs, one earned, off three hits with one strikeout. Carlie Hanes (16-9) threw five innings of no-hit ball in relief to earn the win with seven strikeouts and two walks.
After UNOH no-hit Cornerstone the day before, the Golden Eagles returned the favor in the second meeting scoring both their runs off a homer in the sixth.
Karsyn McGlothen tossed three and two-thirds innings allowing just two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Carlie Hanes (16-10) threw three and a third giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts to take the loss.
