LIMA, OH - After doubling up Taylor in their home opener Saturday, UNOH softball finished off the weekend with two more wins Sunday topping IU-South Bend 7-5 and 10-3.
UNOH had to come from behind to take game one after digging a four-run hole in the second inning that produced all of the Titan offense. Two singles and a passed ball got one back for the Racers in the third before Sydney Shaffer ripped a two-run shot down the right field line and cut the deficit to just one. With runners on in the home fifth, UNOH worked with two outs with a double and a single that plated three and put them up 6-4 after five. A doubled and a pair of errors helped the Racers score a final insurance run in the sixth but it wasn't needed as they held off IU-South Bend in the final frame.
Sydney Shaffer was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three RBI to lead the team. Cecilia Campbell went 1-1 and was walked twice bringing in two RBI and scoring twice.
Lanie Wooten got the start but was forced out in the fifth giving up five runs on ten hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Karsyn McGlothen (1-1) earned the win with a strong two and a third innings in relief giving up four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
The Racers again had to work out of a hole in game two but did the work in the same inning matching IU-South Bend 3-3 in the first. An error and a single gave UNOH the go-ahead run in the third and they stayed in front the rest of the way. Dani Keighley blasted her second home run of the season in the fourth that scored three as part of a four-run frame before the Racers finished off the day with two more in the fifth.
Keighley finished just 1-3 in the game but led the team with four RBI while Sydney Shaffer and Anna Ankney both brought in two. Freshman Matilda Newman was the team's most consistent performer all day going 5-8 over the two games scoring four times with one RBI and one stolen base.
After winning game one in relief, Karsyn McGlothen (2-0) got the start in game two and had to battle adversity again after giving up three runs on three hits in the first. After that inning, however, McGlothen settled in and kept the Titans off the board scattering five hits over the next four innings while striking out five and walking two in the game. Kiya Benschoter finished off the final frame striking out two and allowing one hit.
UNOH will now head South to Melbourne, Florida for a ten game stretch over six days at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Racers will open with Florida Memorial on Thursday, March 13 and conclude their trip against NCAA DII Saint Michael's on Tuesday, March 18.
