Softball Ends Regular Season with 5-2 Win Over IU-South Bend

SOUTH BEND, IN - UNOH completed a 4-0 season sweep of IU-South Bend with a 5-2 win on the final day of the regular season. The teams played just one game of the scheduled doubleheader Sunday due to poor field conditions.

After a scoreless first, UNOH got the scoring started in the second after a lead off walk was followed by a Hailee Edgell home run. An error added one more and put the Racers up 3-0 but IU-South Bend got two back in the bottom of the frame. A solo Sydney Shaffer homer in the third gave UNOH their fourth with a triple and a single in the fourth adding the final run of the game. Both teams put runners in scoring position multiple times down the stretch but neither could break through again giving the Racers a 5-2 win.

With the two home runs, UNOH has now homered in seven of their last nine games with at least two in five of the last eight. The Racers also hit for the cycle as a team marking the ninth time this season.

Shaffer and Edgell led the charge going 2-2 and 2-3, respectively. Edgell ended with two RBI, Shaffer had one and Matilda Newman was also responsible for one.

Lanie Wooten (19-7) pitched the first three and the last two innings giving up two runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Karsyn McGlothen tossed the fourth and fifth innings retiring all six batters faced.

Next up for UNOH will be the WHAC Softball Tournament which begins Wednesday, April 30 at Pacesetter Park in Sylvania. The Racers will open against six-seed Cleary at 4:00 PM on Field 8. The winner will advance to face either two-seed Cornerstone or seven-seed Aquinas at 6:30 PM with the losers of each game squaring off in the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
