UNOH Names Hannah Swartzentruber Interim Head Coach of Softball
LIMA, OH - The University of Northwestern Ohio has announced the promotion of softball assistant coach Hannah Swartzentruber to Interim head coach effective immediately. Swartzentruber takes over the program from previous head coach Travis Owen who resigned earlier this fall after leading the Racers for three seasons.
"I am pleased to announce that Hannah Swartzentruber will serve as Interim Head coach of our softball program," stated UNOH Director of Athletics Jen Dervarics. "Hannah has been an integral part of our coaching staff over the past few years and she brings a deep understanding of our student-athletes and program culture. We are confident in her ability to lead the team with integrity, passion and continuity."
Swartzentruber spent three seasons as assistant coach under Owen while also leading the Softball Development Team. Prior to UNOH, Swartzentruber held the Interim Head Coach title at her alma mater Grace College in 2021 after three years as assistant coach working primarily with outfielders and pitchers while serving a significant role recruiting coordination. Following Grace, she worked as an assistant coach at Dalton High School in 2022.
"I am beyond thankful to step into a bigger role here at UNOH," Swartzentruber said about the promotion. "This opportunity is a true blessing, and I thank God for equipping me with the tools and ability to do this. I am also thankful for everyone here at UNOH for giving me this opportunity and I am excited to lead such an amazing group of girls this season. I look forward to fostering an environment for success not just on the field, but also in the classroom and onward into their future careers. I know we have a great group of dedicated and hard-working ladies and I look forward to helping them reach their full potential both as players and individuals. I am eager to see what they can accomplish together."
Swartzentruber is a 2014 graduate of LaVille High School in Lakeville, Ind. where she was a standout softball player and graduated Core 40 with Academic Honors. She continued her playing career at Grace College where she garnered NCCAA All-American honors as well as All-Conference and NFCA All-Region awards leading the team with a .423 batting average in 2017. Swartzentruber earned a double major at Grace graduating with a Bachelor's of Counseling and Bachelors of Criminal Justice and obtained her Master's of Athletic Administration in 2020.
Swartzentruber met with her team today and will take over the head coaching responsibilities immediately.
