Softball Splits Final Regular Season Doubleheader

SYLVANIA, OH - UNOH softball split their final two games of the regular season on Saturday dropping game one to Lourdes, 6-1, before swiping the night cap, 4-1. It is the fifth time the Racers have rallied in game two after losing the first in conference play and the eighth time overall this season including No. 7 Cumberlands and No. 2 Madonna.

An error on the lead off batter in the Lourdes first evetually resulted in the first run of the game for the Gray Wolves. UNOH answered with a lead off single in the top of the third followed by an Alyssa McCain triple, the first of her career, but it would be the only run of the game for the Racers. Lourdes blew open the tied game in the fourth turning five hits into five runs and a 6-1 advantage. UNOH put runners in scoring position in both the fifth and seventh innings but left them stranded in both instances.

Athena Schwartz and Alyssa McCain were responsible for four of the team's five hits in game one combining to go 4-6 at the dish. Sydney Feenstra logged the final hit in the seventh in her only plate appearance of the game.

Karsyn McGlothen (7-4) went three and two-thirds with six runs on nine hits, five earned, walking three and striking out two. Lanie Wooten finished the final two and a third allowing just one hit and no walks.

Lourdes struck first again in game two using an early error to score a single run in the bottom of the first inning. Unlike the opener, however, the Racers didn't allow another runner past second base as Lanie Wooten commanded the circle the rest of the game. UNOH managed to take advantage of an error themselves to tie the game in the fourth but the game stayed tied entering the final frame of the day.

A lead off single and walk in the seventh began a series that would end up deciding the game. Makenna Goch drove in Athena Schwartz followed by another single by Cecilia Campbell who capped the scoring with a two-RBI single that brought in Brenna Cobb and Alyssa McCain giving the Racers their 14th two-game split of the season.

Schwartz finished off the best single day of her career with another pair of singles to end the doubleheader 4-6 at the plate. Tayler Braun led the team in game two going 3-4 with Sydney Feentra also logging her first multi-hit game since February.

Lanie Wooten (13-13) went the distance for the 18th time this season scattering just four hits with one walk and one strikeout.

UNOH will now sit back and watch the final four games of the regular season that will determine the final conference standings and seedings heading into the WHAC Tournament that begins April 24.
