Lawson and Patterson Combine for 57 as Racers Topple Rochester
LIMA, OH - UNOH picked up back-to-back wins for the first time since November thanks to 57 points dropped by Alysia Lawson and Alycia Patterson in an 88-78 victory over Rochester. The win marks just the second time UNOH has defeated the Warriors in program history (December 9, 2017) and the first ever at home.
Both teams went toe-to-toe early on with no more than four points separating the two through the first ten minutes of play. After surrendering the first five points of the second quarter, UNOH locked down on the defensive end giving up just eight points the rest of the quarter blowing the game open 46-33 at the half. Rochester didn't give up the fight and opened the third with a 10-2 run to cut the lead back down to five but couldn't get any closer as the Racers held on to a 9-point lead heading into the final frame. The Warriors continued to fight, but UNOH held it's cushion knocking down seven of eight charity tosses down the stretch to ice the game.
Alysia Lawson highlighted the night for the Racers with 35 points in the game, the program's fourth most all-time and the most since February 13, 2013 (Shaye Warman - 36). She shot 12-27 (44%) from the field while matching her season best with seven rebounds. Lawson was only outdone by Celeste Mershimer of Rochester who matched her program's record with 37.
Alycia Patterson scored 22 points of her own, giving her consecutive 20+ games for the first time this season. Patterson also pulled down twelve rebounds in the game, matching her season best, for her first double-double of the year. She did most of her scoring from the free-throw line hitting 10 of 10 to become just the fifth player to finish perfect with ten or more attempts and the first since 2018 (Emily Patton - 10-10).
Alayha Allen continued her dominant campaign under the basket grabbing 19 boards for the second straight outing with three more blocks. Allen now has 30 this year moving her into second for a single season.
UNOH held the edge on the boards matching their season best with 49 while Rochester pulled down 43.
The Racers will wrap up a three-game home stand against Cornerstone on Saturday, January 20, with a 1:00 PM tip-off.
