UNOH Knocks off Cornerstone for Third Straight Win

LIMA, OH - UNOH controlled the game from start to finish keeping Cornerstone at arm's length to pick up their third consecutive victory. It is the program's first win over the Golden Eagles since February 5, 2020 (77-53).

 

It took almost two minutes of game time to get the first points of the game, but after Cornerstone took the first lead UNOH answered with a three and never trailed again. The Racers went up by seven after one and opened the second frame with a 9-0 run to take control 28-12. The Golden Eagles fought back and managed to trim the lead to just five at the half. A strong start to the second half pushed the lead back to 14 heading into the final stanza where the Racers managed the game to hold onto a 86-74 win.

After dropping a career high 35 on Wednesday, Alysia Lawson answered with another 30-point outing hitting eleven of 16 attempts for a 69% shooting performance and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Lawson bumped her season average up to 22.5 points per game, second best in the conference. Alycia Patterson continued her strong start to 2024 with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Patterson has now hit double-figures in four straight games and eight of the last ten. Ana Montero Sanz added 17 points and Olivia Thompson chipped in eleven.

Alayha Allen dominated on the boards once again pulling down 17 after back-to-back 19 rebound games. Allen is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game, the leagues second best. She added four more blocks to her season tally tying the single season record with 34. 

As a team, UNOH shot 52% from the field, the team's best since game one of the season, while shooting a season high 50% from three-point. The Racers also hit 20 of 21 free throw attempts in the game for a season high 95%.

 

UNOH will hit the road for two next week taking on Concordia on Wednesday, January 24, before heading to Cleary on Saturday.
