UNOH Sweeps First Weekly WHAC Awards
After a big showing on opening night, UNOH women's basketball has swept the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) weekly awards announced Monday. Senior Alysia Lawson used a record-setting night to earn the offensive honor while freshman Sanaiiya Gray logged a double-double in her debut to pick up the defensive award.
Offensive Player of the Week - Alysia Lawson
Lawson earned the weekly award for the 14th time in her career after recording a new single-game scoring record with 46 points against Great Lakes Christian on Thursday night. She topped her own record of 43 set two seasons ago and fell just one point short of the all-time conference record of 47. Lawson knocked down 19 of 34 attempts which also sets a new program record (Krissy Koester - 2008) for a 56% shooting performance. Additionally, she pulled down three boards, dished out two assists and swiped two steals in the game.
Defensive Player of the Week - Sanaiiya Gray
Gray highlighted her Racer debut with a double-double scoring ten points and grabbing 14 rebounds on the night. She was a force on the defensive side with nine of her boards coming on that end while adding four blocks to her scoreline. Gray shot 50% from the field and contributed four assists on the offensive side adding to her impressive freshman inauguration.
