UNOH Women's Bowling Makes History in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV - After finishing second out of 61 teams at the Glenn Carlson Invitational December 19, UNOH women's bowling followed up just two days later with the program's first ever Tier 1 championship at the Collegiate Shoot-Out.

The top eight teams of each event qualify for a matchplay tournament as the women snuck into both brackets in seventh and eighth, respectively. At the Glenn Carlson, UNOH defeated Trine 3-2 in the quarterfinals 208-180, 164-158, 178-202, 237-246, 219-181. In the semifinals, the Racers made easy work of Mount Mercy, 3-1, with scores of 192-175, 160-188, 196-192, and 170-167. UNOH advanced to face Milligan in the championship where they fell in four games, 206-197, 241-181, 214-227, 244-181. The second place finish was the program's best at the event but was just the beginning of a strong weekend.

The Racer women one-upped themselves just two days later picking up the program's first ever Tier 1 championship and their fifth team title of the season at the Collegiate Shoot-Out. UNOH snuck their way into the matchplay tournament in the final spot, but a strong start helped them get through the semifinals and into the championship.

Four teams fought it out in each semifinal match with UNOH leading their group with a 728 followed by fifth-seed Trine with a 702. On the opposite side of the bracket, third-seed Ottawa (KS) and second-seed St. Vincent earned their place in the championship with scores of 821 and 790, respectively. The Racers began with their best round of matchplay to that point scoring 205 to take an early lead over the other three teams. They followed with a 193 but St. Vincent closed the gap to just a single pin with a 214. Again UNOH responded scoring their best single round of the tournament with a 222 to pull away before finishing with a 195 to take the team title by 51 points over Trine.

UNOH will be off until January 17 when they head to the Kegel-ISBPA Midwest Collegiate Classic at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois.
