Douglas Tops Field, Racers Claim Team Title at LTU Shootout
YORKTOWN, IN - UNOH women's golf began the week with their third team title of the season leading wire-to-wire at the LTU Spring Shootout Monday and Tuesday. The Racers overcame six WHAC opponents, including No. 25 Lawrence Tech, and two Crossroads League teams to lift the team trophy led by freshman Molly Douglas who claimed her second individual medal of the campaign.
UNOH rode their best team round of the season to the title shooting 307 through the first 18 holes, eleven strokes better than their previous best, following with a 329 and 323 to finish off the best 54-hole tournament of the year at 959, six strokes ahead of second place Grace.
Douglas sat third after a round one 75 but stayed consistent in round two while most of the 51-player field struggled to jump into first place with a 76. She carried that momentum into a day two 73, her lowest round of the year, to pull away from the field by nine strokes for a career best 54-hole result at 224. Kudzai Mandava was also strong for the Racers picking up her fifth top five in seven events this season finishing in fourth with a 235 after rounds of 73, 85 and 77.
Luise Pekoll picked up a top 15 result thanks to her own personal best 18-holes in round one where she shot 77 before carding an 85 and 86 for a 248. Kayla Watkins also marked a season best with a tournament score of 252 shooting rounds of 82, 83 and 87. Riley Daeger rouned out the team scoring with a 298 going 98, 99, 101.
The event is the final regular season competition for UNOH as they now prep for the WHAC Championship in two weeks. The post season tournament moves from Augusta, Michigan to Yorktown, Indiana for the first time and will take place at The Players Club at Woodland Trails on April 27-28.
