Four Women's Soccer Players Named All-Ohio
Four members of the Northwestern Ohio women's soccer team -- Camilla Andersen (JR/Horsens, Denmark), Evdokia Popadinova (SO/Hadzhidimovo, Bulgaria), Romane Salvador (FR/Lyon, France) and Sanni Valila (SR/Pori, Finland) -- recently were named All-Ohio by the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association.
Andersen, a First Team NAIA All-American and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week on September 4, led the conference with 56 points as she also led in goals with 26. The 56 points and 26 goals are the second-most in a season by a UNOH player in school history, only trailing the 77 points and 35 goals Andersen tallied in earning First Team All-American honors in 2016. She recorded three goals against Olivet Nazarene on September 16 and had two goals in eight other matches, including against Lawrence Tech in the WHAC quarterfinals, William Woods in the opening round of the NAIA Tournament and Tennessee Wesleyan in the NAIA quarterfinals.
Popadinova, a First Team All-American and the WHAC Offensive Player of the Year, led the WHAC with 15 assists, five more than any other player in the conference, and was third in goals with 19 and in points with 53. Named the NAIA Offensive Player of the Week on October 3 along with being chosen as the WHAC Offensive Player of the Week on August 28 and October 2, Popadinova tallied two or more goals in a match six times this season, including three against Rochester on September 30, and had three matches of two or more assists, with her season high being three versus Olivet Nazarene on September 16.
Salvador, a First Team All-American and the WHAC Defensive Player of the Year, was a key part of a Racer defense that posted 15 shutouts and allowed just 12 goals altogether. The NAIA Defensive Player of the Week on September 5, she was selected as the WHAC Defensive Player of the Week on August 28 and September 4. Salvador, who set a school record for saves in a season with 62, recorded seven saves in a 2-1 win at #3 Vanguard on August 31 and had six saves on five other occasions.
Valila, an Honorable Mention All-American selection, helped the Racer defense post a 0.49 goals against average for the season and also recorded an assist.
UNOH (20-3-1, 10-0 WHAC) won the WHAC regular-season title for the fourth consecutive year and advanced to the semifinals of the NAIA Tournament for the fourth straight season, falling to eventual champion Spring Arbor.
