An Arianna Cirillo (FR/Venturina Terme, Italy) goal with 3:26 remaining gave the Northwestern Ohio women's soccer team a 1-0 victory at Madonna Wednesday afternoon, allowing the Racers to clinch at least a share of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular-season title.
UNOH outshot the Crusaders 8-1 in the first half and 13-1 overall, but the game remained scoreless until Cirillo received a cross pass from Kate Agyemang (SR/Kumasi, Ghana) and converted for her third goal of the season at the 86:34 mark of the second half. Agyemang was credited with her 11th assist of the year.
Goalkeeper Lisa Venrath (FR/Linnich, Germany) posted her eighth shutout of the season and it was the 10th shutout overall for the Racer defense.
With the win, Northwestern Ohio (15-1, 10-0 WHAC) clinched at least a share of the WHAC regular-season title and also the #1 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. The Racers have either won outright or shared the WHAC regular-season title in each of the last six seasons.
UNOH closes out the regular season on Saturday, November 2, with a 4:30 contest at Lawrence Tech.
