MOUNT VERNON, OH - UNOH women's soccer saw their four-game unbeaten streak snapped on a road trip to Mount Vernon Nazarene Wednesday. All three goals came in the first 45 minutes with the Cougars netting just before halftime to hand the Racers their first loss since opening day, 2-1.
MVNU scored their first goal in the 23rd minute on a converted penalty kick to take an early lead, 1-0. Mathilda Berg Karlsson netted her first goal of the season ten minutes later, becoming the nineth different Racer to score this season, leveling the match at 1-1. It looked like the game would head to the break still tied, but in the 43rd minute the Cougars struck again off a corner kick that deflected around in front of goal before being lifted over the keeper and into the net.
UNOH dominated the ball in the second half holding Mount Vernon to just one shot while racking up ten of their own, but the game-tying goal was allusive with the Cougars holding on for the win.
The physical match produced 22 fouls and two yellow cards with UNOH producing 20 total shots to just four for the Cougars.
The Racers will look to rebound on the road when they begin WHAC play at Madonna on Saturday.
