Twilight Goal Snares UNOH Win in Snowy First Round

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - On a snowy night in Kentucky, UNOH battled with LSU-Shreveport in a first-time matchup between the two programs. All of the game's goals were scored in the second half with the Racers netting the decisive shot in the 86th minute to slide past the Pilots, 2-1, and into the NAIA National Championship Second Round on Saturday.

The first half was a one-sided affair with UNOH controlling the pace while dominating possession getting seven shots off and allowing just one. Their efforts, however, could not produce the finish they needed and the game stayed scoreless after 45 minutes.

Things looked very similiar for the first 20 minutes of the second half as the Racers finally broke through in the 66th minute. Mathilda Berg Karlsson was responsible for the go ahead goal blasting a shot from the left side of the penalty area that threaded two defenders and beat a diving keeper. That lead was short-lived thanks to an effective counter attack by the Pilots that saw a redirected shot finish in the back of the net just four minutes later.

As time ticked away, UNOH kept building pressure and creating chances but the decisive goal was elusive. Finally, with less than five minutes to play, Inga Ehrefried found herself in space on the left wing and fed a perfect ball into a streaking Vivian Purmonen. Purmomen connected first time on a slide and pushed the ball past the keeper for the game winner.

The win advances UNOH into the Second Round of the NAIA National Championship where they will face host No. 6 Campbellsville on Saturday for a trip to Pensacola, Florida.
