Women's Tennis Wins 2024 WHAC Tournament Title
MIDLAND, MI - For the first time since 2019, and the fourth time in program history, UNOH women's tennis has swept the WHAC Regular Season and Tournament titles.
As the top seed, UNOH held a bye into the semifinals where they blanked fourth-seeded Lawrence Tech, 4-0, on Wednesday. On the opposite side of the bracket, second-seed (RV) Cornerstone edged out three-seed Indiana Tech, 4-2, setting up a championship bout between the two top teams in the WHAC.
The Racers won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the first point against the Golden Eagles. Ana Cetina and Munisa Ashurbekova won 6-3 with Neo Mafuyeka and Jelena Lopicic taking care of their matchup 6-1.
The three final clinching points came in singles three five and six with Cornerstone winning the No. 2 spot. Munisa Ashurbekova was responsible for No. 3 winning 6-1, 6-4, Agathe Vaillant took No. 5 6-1, 6-1 and Neo Mafuyeka finished off No. 6 6-1, 6-4.
As the WHAC Tournament Champions, UNOH earns an automatic bid to the 43rd Women's Tennis National Championships. The First Round of the tournament will open May 14 at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala., culmulnating with the National Championship on Saturday, May 18.
