Baseball Plates 45 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep

XENIA, OH - The UNOH offense exploded Friday afternoon in the program's first ever meeting with Wilberforce. The Racers opened up with a 20-4 win in game one before pouring it on again in game two, 25-3.

The first inning went scoreless before the Racers got the scoring started with three in the first adding two in the fourth and three in the fifth before the Bulldogs could get on the board. Wilberforce got three in the home fifth and one more in the sixth, but the seventh and eighth belonged to UNOH as they turned a 8-4 game into a 20-4 game with twelve runs over the two innings to pick up the first blowout win of the day.

Daniel Healy (2-1) was strong through five and a third allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Jeremy Yurcak tossed one and two-thirds in relief giving up just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Nate Tappenden finished the final frame striking out two of three batters face forcing a fly out for the final out of the game.

The teams combined for eight runs in the first inning of game two with UNOH plating five and Wilberforce scoring all three of theirs. The next two frames went scoreless before the Racers found their groove and poured it on taking advantage of eight fielding errors over the final four innings by the Bulldogs. UNOH scored four, four, eight and four to end the game turning a 5-3 advantage after three into a 25-3 win.

Brayden Lybarger (1-1) earned his first win as a Racer striking out ten batters over five innings of work with three runs on four hits. Josh Mauney threw one inning in middle relief and Eliott Traver finished off the final frame with both pitchers striking out all three batters they each faced. The three combined for a season high 16 strikeouts with ten batters going down looking, a new program record.

Transfer Jacob Watson had an exceptional offensive day finishing 6-7 at the plate with five RBI over the two games. Fabian Romero led the team with six RBI going 6-9 with one walk while Eliomar Otero and Eric Impson both added five RBI on the day.

UNOH will head to Kentucky next weekend four a four-game series against Georgetown Saturday and Sunday March 8-9.
