Racers Can't Keep up as Cornerstone Runs Away in Conference Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - UNOH men's basketball opened up their conference schedule on the road at Cornerstone but saw the Golden Eagles take over in the second half, falling 95-71.

After UNOH fought to keep the deficit in single digits at halftime, they carried over into the start of the second half to cut the lead to just three. That was as close as the Racers would get as Cornerstone rode a 13-1 run to a 15-point lead and never looked back.

"We had Cornerstone on the ropes early in the second half," said head coach Richard Westerlund, "but we lost details in our scout and they made us pay for our mistakes."

Grant Pikkaart led the way for the Racers with 15 points with four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Trae Ruggles and Jayden Priddy-Powell each finished with eleven points. Ruggles went 5-6 with five rebounds while Priddy-Powell shot 4-9. Quinton Monroe added ten points off the bench for the Racers.

"We must do a better job executing our score and, ultimately, we need to hit shots," continued Westerlund. "It takes 40 minutes and, while we're getting better, if we want the result to match the process it will take us putting together a full 40 minutes."

UNOH will return home for their first conference game of the season in The Garage when they play host to Concordia on Tuesday, November 21, at 7:30 PM.
