UNOH Loses Overtime Showdown at IU-Kokomo
KOKOMO, IN - Overtime was on the menu for the first time since 2019 Monday night as UNOH men's basketball fell on the road, 95-90, to IU-Kokomo.
The game started back and forth with UNOH holding an 18-14 lead at the midpoint of the first half. The Cougars found their groove over the next five minutes hitting a 16-2 run to go up ten, turning it up to twelve, 37-25 with 4:13 left in the half. The Racers rallied to score 14 straight in three minutes to take a brief lead before heading to the locker room even at 39-39.
Again, IU-Kokomo pushed their lead back to double-digits, 64-53, but UNOH kept fighting back and eventually tied the game once more 80-80 with 1:36 left to play. Both teams had multiple chances to win the game down the stretch, but the offensive well ran dry sending the night into an extra session.
The teams continued to trade blows exchanging the lead five times to start the overtime period, but missed free throws and a three turnovers aided the Cougars to a 7-0 run to take control, 93-86, with just 44 seconds remaining. UNOH managed to get back within two possessions, but ran out of time as IU-Kokomo held on 95-90.
Jayden Priddy-Powell game off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points going 6-9 from the field and 8-11 at the charity stripe. Antonio King added 16, Marquis Freeman had 12, and Alex Benson finished with ten. Ryan Archey fell one rebound short of a double-double scoring 14 and grabbing a team high nine boards.
Both teams were pretty even across the board as UNOH shot 45.8% as a team hitting 33 of 72 attempts while IU-Kokomo hit 41.3% and 33 of 80 tries. The Racers finished 7-22 (31.8%) from three-point but were edged out by the Cougars' 9-28 (32.1%). Rebounds also tilted slightly towards IU-Kokomo 40-39 with turnovers showing the biggest difference as the Racers coughed it up 18 times while only forcing 13.
UNOH will play an exhibition event at the University of Findlay Thursday night taking on the Trojans at 7:00 PM.
