UNOH Avenges Early Season Loss with Win at UM-Dearborn
DEARBORN, MI - After trailing at halftime, UNOH exploded for 52 points in the second half pulling away to take down UM-Dearborn on the road, 95-83.
The game played much tighter than the final score would indicate producing ten ties and nine lead changes as neither team could get control early in the first. The Wolverines were first to find footing going up by as many as nine with less than four minutes left before halftime. The Racers fought back with a 9-2 run to finish the half and cut the lead to two, 45-43, at the break.
The second half began the same as the first with the two teams trading blows before a 9-0 Wolverine run gave them their largest lead of the game, 59-49, with 13:47 to play. UNOH chipped away over the next five minutes to pull things even again and foul trouble began to play a factor for UM-Dearborn. Over the final eight minutes, 21 of the Racers' 31 points came at the charity stripe knocking down 21 of 24 attempts as they slowly pulled away to for the twelve-point win.
As a team, the Racers matched the program record with 36 made free throws in the game. They were led by Ryan Archey who fell one free throw short of the single game record going 16-18 from the line for a 27-point night. Antonio King finished with 20 of his own also doing most of his work at the stripe on 10-11 shooting. Grant Pikkaart and Alex Benson chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.
UNOH will travel to the Schaefer Center on Wednesday, February 12 for their next contest against (RV) Indiana Tech.
