SOUTHFIELD, MI - UNOH men's basketball mounted multiple comeback attempts Wednesday night but were fended off each time by Lawrence Tech as the Blue Devils pulled away down the stretch and handed the Racers a 108-92 loss.
The Blue Devils went up by as many as 13 over the first ten minutes of game time but UNOH scored ten straight in just two minutes to pull within three. Lawrence Tech was able to fend off the first comeback attempt and went back up by ten, 53-43, at the half.
That lead ballooned into 16 less than three minutes into the second half, but a 15-3 run for the Racers fueled a second attempt to get in front as they closed the lead to just four, 65-61, with twelve minutes to play. The game stayed tight for the next four minutes with UNOH getting within one before the Blue Devils scored nine straight to put the lead back in double-figures again with 6:40 remaining. Seven points is as close as UNOH would get down the stretch as Lawrence Tech slowly pulled away to take the win.
Three different Racers posted 20-point performances led by Ryan Archey's 28. Archey went 10-15 from the field and 7-10 at the free throw lineadding three assists and three rebounds. Caleb Chapman finished with 21 off the bench knocking down 7-10 shots from the field including 4-5 from outside while pulling down five boards and blocking three shots. Antonio King added 20 points on 8-16 shooting with five rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Despite the loss, UNOH shot well as a team hitting 51% as a team from the field. The charity stripe was unkind, however, as the Racers shot just 61% as a team to 83% for Lawrence Tech with lopsided rebound numbers favoring the Blue Devils 43-26.
With one game left on the regular season slate, UNOH will make a trip to Siena Heights on Saturday to determine final seeding for the WHAC Tournament. With a win and a Rochester Christian loss the Racers could jump to sixth and make a trip to third-place in the quarterfinals, but a Warrior win holds UNOH at seventh where host an opening round game against tenth-place on Tuesday, February 25.
