Men's Basketball Snags Historic Win at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - UNOH men's basketball opened the new year with a feat that had never been accomplished before as they rolled into Mol Arena Saturday afternoon and came out with the program's first ever road victory over Cornerstone, 78-68. The Racers had not defeated the Golden Eagles in any location since 2022 and just twice total since 2015, but they controlled their most recent matchup from start to finish leading by as many as 18 and never trailing in the win.

The game was tight through the first ten minutes and the teams sat locked at 14-14 before the Racers rattled off a 14-2 run over the next four minutes to go up twelve with 5:36 left in the half. Their lead remained in double-digits until the 15:14 mark of the second half when Cornerstone pulled with nine, but it was quickly pushed back up to the largest lead of the night, 62-44, with 6:45 to play. The Golden Eagles didn't give up the fight, though, and rallied back with their own 15-2 run that closed the gap to just five points with less than three minutes to play. UNOH was efficient down the stretch to finish off the game going 4-4 from the field, including two three pointers, and 4-6 from the stripe to complete the historic victory.

Antonio King led all scorers with 25 points, his sixth 20+ outing of the season, shooting 7-15 from the field, 6-9 from three, and 5-6 from the free throw line. Alex Benson scored 14 off the bench and Chance Groce chipped in eleven. Jyheim Spencer led on the boards with eight rebounds followed by Grant Pikkaart's five.

The Racers shot 48% from the field as a team, their best since November 19, while knocking down twelve of 24 three-point attempts for a season high 50% shooting performance.

UNOH returns home for two games next week hosting Cleary on Wednesday, January 7 followed by UM-Dearborn on Saturday.
