Men's Soccer: #10 UNOH Powers Through Lourdes

LIMA, OH - UNOH men's soccer (7-0-2, 2-0) picked up their fourth straight shutout with a 3-0 win over Lourdes (3-5-1, 1-1) on September 28.

The Racers have never lost to Lourdes, but after 45 minutes, the match sat level at 0-0. It wasn't until the 57th minute that UNOH finally broke through. Tomas Echevarria (JR/Montevideo, Uruguay) played a ball in from 18 yards out and Gonzalo La Chica (SO/Malaga, Spain) deflected it slightly with his head to beat the keeper and give the Racers a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, the Gray Wolves earned a penalty kick with a chance to level the match. Simon Sanchez (FR/La Hoya, Murcia, Spain) guessed right and made the save but parried the ball back before making a second save in a matter of seconds to preserve the clean sheet. The teams continued to battle but the dagger came in the 84th minute for UNOH. Just 23 seconds after checking into the match, Cameron Power (SO/Waterford, Ireland) took a through ball from Tomas Echevarria and beat the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Power wasn't done, though, when the Racers earned a penalty kick and sent him to the spot in the 85th minute. The Gray Wolves' keeper guessed right but it didn't matter as Power put the ball in the bottom corner for his second goal in just three minutes and 18 seconds of game time on the pitch.

UNOH outshot the Gray Wolves 16 to seven in the match and ten to four on goal. Including his PK saves, Simon Sanchez went the full 90 making four saves and has not given up a goal in his three starts this season.

The Racers have outscored Lourdes 29-4 in nine matchups with five clean sheets.

UNOH heads to UM-Dearborn for their next match on Saturday, October 1.
