WESTFIELD, IN - Northwestern Ohio men's soccer took on the defending national champions in a neutral site matchup on Saturday, September 2. After the match failed to produce a goal in the first half, the two teams combined for six in the second with #1 Bethel getting the best of UNOH 4-2.
The Pilots struck first just seven minutes into the second half, but the Racers responded with one of their own two minutes later. It was Helix Owusu netting the first goal of the season for UNOH, unassisted, in the 55th minute. The game played level for almost 25 minutes before it was Bethel again putting the ball in the back of the net. Like the first, the Racers answered quickly to level the match at 2-2 just 72 seconds later. Moritz Guettel took a free kick from about ten yards outside the 18 and found the head of Cameron Lewis on the far post who directed it past the keeper. It took the Pilots 56 seconds to find the game winner with less than nine minutes to play before throwing the knockout blow in the 89th to give Bethel the 4-2 win.
Georgios Theodoulides (0-2-1) put in a full 90 in front of goal, making five saves.
UNOH will return home for their next match when they face (RV) Indiana Wesleyan at Racer Stadium Wednesday, September 6. 4:00 PM kickoff.
