Sanchez Hat Trick Fuels UNOH Win Over SXU

RIO GRANDE, OH - UNOH men's soccer picked up a strong rebound win in their second game of the season blanking Saint Xavier 3-0 at the RedStorm Classic.

The team's first goal of the season came early in the match off a perfectly executed corner kick. Leandro Sain put the ball on the far post where Natxo Sanchez skied and headed the ball into the top corner for his first career goal. In the 19th minute, a Cougar turnover around midfield set up Eguzki Hashimoto for a threaded through ball that split two defenders and found Sanchez cutting behind the backline. With just the keeper to beat, Sanchez did the job again and put his team up 2-0. The next 25 produced just three combined shots and UNOH held their two goal lead into halftime.

After building pressure against the Saint Xavier defense in the second half, the Racers earned a penalty kick from a foul inside the box in the 60th minute. Natxo Sanchez was given the opportunity for his third and delivered from the spot. Over the final half hour, the two teams split chances 5-5 but neither could find the back of the net.

UNOH held a slight edge in total shots, 13-10, but were far more accurate putting nine on target to just three for the Cougars.

Alexandre Urbina Torres played the full 90 in front of goal in his first collegiate start making three saves to preserve the clean sheet.

The Racers will have eight days off before they host No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan in the home opener on September 3.
