Men's Soccer Falls to #15 IWU in Home Opener

LIMA, OH - A strong first half helped UNOH work into a 1-0 lead over the No. 15 team in the country going into halftime. The second half, however, saw Indiana Wesleyan mount a furious comeback netting three goals to steal the Racers' home opener, 3-1.

Things were physical and fairly neutral for most of the first half but it was UNOH who finally broke the deadlock. In the 38th minute, the Racers had built high pressure and forced a Wildcat mistake. A deflected ball traveled back towards their own goal and a foot race was on. Leandro Sain beat the defender to the ball and made a sliding attempt to before the keeper could reach the spot. Sain did enough to direct it past and into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

After holding off the Wildcats to end the first half, UNOH created some chances early in the second but couldn't get it past the keeper. Indiana Wesleyan took the chance to dictate pace and finally got the best of the Racer keeper to level the match at 1-1. They continued to control the match and dropped the game winner in the 77th minute. The Wildcats netted one more time in the 79th minute to ensure the win and spoil the home opener, 3-1.

Leonard Assouan led the team with four total shots and Leandro Sain finished with three. Alexandre Torres played the full 90 making ten total saves in the match.

UNOH will head south for the LWC Showcase this weekend facing (RV) Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday and host No. 25 Lindsey Wilson on Monday.
