COLUMBIA, KY - After falling behind 2-0 in the second half, UNOH men's soccer had to battle their way back into their match against (RV) Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday, September 7. The Racers never quit and fought back to net two of their own to salvage a 2-2 draw.
It took more than a half hour, but the Grizzlies hit first in the 35th minute to go up 1-0. They were far more productive than the Racers in the first half, but there was still just the one goal between them when halftime hit.
Georgia Gwinnett struck much quicker in the second 45 needing just five minutes and hitting on their second shot of the half to take a 2-0 lead. The game began to work end to end over the next ten minutes before UNOH finally got one back in the 68th minute. Following a foul, Natxo Sanchez took a free from just outside the penalty box beating the wall and the keeper to the near post for his team-leading fourth goal this season. The pace slowed as the match aged, but in the 82nd minute the Racers took advantage of another free kick. The kick was taken from near midfield and put into the six-yard box where it deflected off a defender straight to Ryan Hennessy who finished past a diving keeper and into the back of the net. It would end up being the final shot of the game as UNOH avoided defeat with a 2-2 tie.
Alexandre Torres (1-1-1) went 90 in front of goal making five saves on seven shots on goal.
The Racers will head back to Kentucky to finish off the LWC Showcase against home team No.25 Lindsey Wilson on Monday, September 9.
