LIMA, OH - A big win and a little help gave UNOH men's soccer control of the conference table as they improved to 11-2-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 in the WHAC with a 6-0 victory over Siena Heights on Saturday. No. 17 Indiana Tech aided the Racers' cause as well downing the only other undefeated team, Lawrence Tech, 2-1 leaving UNOH as the last remaining unbeaten.
One of the nation's top scorers was the first to find the back of the net needing less than ten minutes to get his team on the board. Michel Tentchou took a perfect through ball from Leonard K.Assouan and side-stepped the keeper before rolling the ball over the line for his 13th goal of the year. The second came in the 31st minute with a long cross from Reece Benjamin that found Assouan right beside the goal. A quick move cleared the keeper as an easy finish put the Racers up 2-0. The two teams battled through the final quarter hour of the half and into the second without another goal.
After 44 minutes with the two-goal advantage, UNOH came alive late netting three times in less than three minutes to blow the game open. Tentchou scored the first of the three with a beautiful feed from Benjamin for his fourth multi-goal outing of the year. With four matches to play, Tentchou is now chasing history needing just three goals to match the program's single season scoring record.
Natxo Sanchez entered the match after the third goal and needed just two minutes to make it a 4-0 game with a low strike from the top of the box. The game had barely restarted when Assouan made it his first career brace with some fancy footwork that undid the Saints' defence. Assouan sent the first defender flying past as he changed direction and cut into the box. Under control, he dribbled calmly past two more defenders before faking out a fourth and finishing into the bottom corner.
The final score of the day came off a mistake by the Siena Heights keeper who hit a goal kick directly to Ryan Hennessy all alone in the middle of the field. One-on-one, Hennessy finished calmly past the keeper to cap their third straight shutout and seventh of the season.
Ross Synnott (7-0-0) earned sixth clean sheet in seven appearances this year making one save on the only Saints' shot of the day.
UNOH now enters their toughest stretch of the year where they face all three of the teams tied for second place at 6-1. The test begins on Wednesday, October 15 when the Racers travel to No. 18 Madonna followed by a second road trip to Rochester Christian next Saturday. The final week of the regular season will include a third straight away game, this time at No. 17 Indiana Tech, before finishing at home against Lawrence Tech
