Women's Basketball: UNOH Loses Heartbreaker to IU-Southeast
LIMA, OH - UNOH (1-1) saw the Grenadiers of IU-Southeast (3-0) erase a 16-point lead to hand the Racers a heartbreaking 57-54 loss.
The first quarter was tight with UNOH holding a 13-12 lead after one. The Racer defense continued to perform with some added offense in quarter two to help UNOH take a 31-24 lead into the break. The Racers continued to hold the Grenadiers at bay in the third with 19-10 quarter and the games largest lead 50-34 heading into the final stanza. It took almost the entire frame, but IU-Southeast finally took the lead 55-54 with 90 seconds left in the game. The Grenadiers knocked down their final two free throws to ice the game and give UNOH their first loss of the season.
Jada Haines (SR/Akron, Ohio) had a team high 18 points with five rebounds, three steals and three assists. Amy Soumare (SR/Senegal, West Africa) shot 60% from the field (6-10) picking up her second double-double in as many games to start the season. Soumare finished with twelve points and twelve reobunds in the game. Ana Montero Sanz (SO/Madrid, Spain) added nine points, Mar Marata Crespo (SR/Girona, Spain) had eight, and Alysia Lawson (FR/Toledo, Ohio) rounded out the scoring with seven.
UNOH shot 32% from the field while holding the Grenadiers to just 27% and won the rebound battle 51-47.
The Racers will welcome Madonna into The Garage to open conference play on Wednesday, November 9, at 5:30 PM.
