Women's Basketball: Racers Fall in WHAC Quarterfinal Thriller

ADRIAN, MI - In a weather delayed WHAC Quarterfinal matchup, seven-seed UNOH (13-15, 8-12) gave two-seed Siena Heights (24-5, 16-4) everything they could handle. The Racers forced two extra periods, but foul trouble proved costly as the Saints pulled away for a 93-83 win behind 47 points from one of the league's most potent scorers.

UNOH controlled the pace of the game through the first quarter, but the Siena Heights put up the final six points of the frame to lead 19-18 after one. The Racers hit a three to start the second and took the lead back by one. As the quarter progressed the game stayed close but a late 6-0 run by UNOH put the Racers up 35-29 at the break.

The slow pace continued to start the second half but UNOH continued to control and never trailed in the quarter holding a 46-41 lead into the final period of regulation. The Saints started to come alive in the fourth with a 9-3 run to take their first lead of the half 50-49 with just over seven minutes to play. The lead traded hands five times with the Racers hitting two free throws to up 65-63 with nine ticks remaining. Siena Heights hit a shot just before the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

It was the Saints controlling overtime one jumping out to a six point lead with 2:38 to go. The Racers cut it to three with 24 seconds left, but it was a banked three-pointer from Ana Montero Sanz (SO/Madrid, Spain) that tied the game at 77 sending it to a second overtime. Foul trouble became a problem as the game got later and the Racers ran out of gas as the Saints pulled away for the ten-point win.

Jada Haines (SR/Akron, Ohio) led the Racers with 27 points with three steals, two rebounds, two assists and a block. Haines was 9-20 (45%) from the field, 3-6 from outside and a perfect 6-6 at the charity stripe. Alysia Lawson (FR/Toledo, Ohio) finished with 18 points and six rebounds and Ana Montero Sanz finished with 14. Mar Marata Crespo (SR/Girona, Spain) ended her career as a Racer with a career high 14 defensive rebounds and 18 total rebounds, both are the program's fourth most all-time and the most since 2018 (Fataya Larry - 19).
