Racer Offense Gets Back on Track in Win over Cleary

LANSING, MI - Despite being held under 70 points in their last two outings, the WHAC's top offense managed to muscle out wins in both games to stay unbeaten in league play. After a week off, the Racer offense got back into form Wednesday night matching the program's best ever start in conference play with an 84-73 win at Cleary.

The Cougars jumped out to an early 6-0 lead before the Racers answered with a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the night. The runs continued with Cleary coming back 8-0 and take their largest lead of the night at 16-9, but the quarter ended with UNOH scoring the final twelve points to hold a 26-19 advantage after one.

Cleary pulled within three to open the second quarter but the Racers responded again to extend the lead up to ten with three and half to play before the break. Like the first, UNOH ended the second scoring the final eight points to hold the games largest lead of the night, 46-32, at halftime.

The lead remained in double-figures for all but 41 seconds of the third quarter as the Racers entered the final frame with a comfortable 68-57 lead. The Cougars made one more push early on in the fourth cutting a 14-point lead to just five, 74-69, with 5:10 to play in the game. The Racer defense locked down in the dying embers holding Cleary to just one field goal over those final five minutes, coming with just nine ticks on the clock, as UNOH pulled away for a final time, 84-73.

After being held to her lowest point total of the season her last time out, Alysia Lawson got back in her grove scoring a game high 28 points on 8-18 (44%) shooting from the field. Five of Lawson's eight buckets come off made three-point attempts finishing the night 5-11 (45%) from outside while also shooting 7-8 (88%) from the charity stripe. Alayha Allen had a strong night of her own bagging a career high 19 points on 7-10 shooting while pulling down six boards with three steals, two blocks, and one assist. Jayci Allen fell two assists short of a double-double scoring ten with a game high eight dishes, one less than the Cougars earned as a team.

UNOH will look to make history again this season when they return home after four straight road games to take on UM-Dearborn on Saturday.
