Racers Pull Away in Fourth Quarter for 95-72 Win
LIMA, OH - UNOH played tight with UC-Clermont for three quarters Wednesday night but a big fourth helped them pull away at the end for a 95-72 win.
The first quarter went back and forth producing all seven of the games lead changes and three ties before the Racers got on a roll to end the period. Over the final minute of the first and just over two minutes into the second UNOH put together a massive 17-2 run that pushed them into a 12-point lead, 37-25.
Despite the Racers playing from the front the rest of the night, the Cougars kept hanging around answering run-for-run. A 9-0 stretch cut the lead to three before a 10-3 Racer streak put them back up by ten. Again UC-Clermont responded ending the half on a 7-2 run that made a 49-44 game at the break.
UNOH looked like they were going to pull away to open the third outscoring the Cougars 12-2 over the first six and a half minutes to take their biggest lead to that point, 61-46. UCC wasn't done, though, and made a final push with a 14-4 stretch that spilled over into the final frame and shaved the lead back to five.
The Racers locked in on both ends to finish off the night and outscored the Cougars 30-12 over the final 9:42 running away for a 23-point victory.
It was another impressive offensive showing by senior Alysia Lawson who scored 38 points on 16-28 (57%) shooting. She also snatched four steals adding two assists and two rebounds.
Sanaiiya Gray followed up her debut double-double last week with another strong outing producing 19 points including 3-4 from outside while grabbing six rebounds, blocking four shots, assisting twice and grabbing two steals.
Olivia Thompson set a career best hitting nine of nine free throw attempts and finishing with 18 points on the night while Brooke Asher ended two assists short of a double-double for the second time in two games scoring ten points with eight dishes.
UNOH will have a tough test in their next matchup but will get to take their shot at home when No. 23 Shawnee State visits The Garage this Saturday night.
