Racers Overcome Slow Start to Swipe Win Over SHU

LIMA, OH - After eight days off, UNOH women's basketball was sluggish out of the gate against Siena Heights Wednesday night falling into a 22-point hole in the first half. The Racers went to work with a steady grind on both ends fighting their way back to earn a 78-70 win at home.

UNOH took an early 4-3 lead to start the game, but it was all Siena Heights the rest of the quarter as they shot 50% from the field as a team and outscored the Racers 26-10. The Saints continued to control the game for the first three and a half minutes of the second pushing their lead up to 22-points at the 6:26 mark. From that point forward, UNOH took control outscoring the Saints 19-4, including the final 14 points of the half, to shave the lead back to seven heading into the locker room.

Siena Heights responded to start the third scoring nine of the first 13 points of the half to go back up by twelve, but the Racers locked in defensively holding them to just nine more points over the final 6:18 of the frame while shooting 53% as a team to pull within two, 58-56, heading into the fourth quarter. The first four minutes of the frame were a dead heat and the teams locked horns at 63-63 with 6:11 left to play. However, it was the last time the Saints would threaten as UNOH took the lead for a final time on the very next basket holding their opponent to just twelve points in the quarter and finishing 4-4 from the charity stripe to ice the game.

Alysia Lawson led all scorers with 26 points shooting 47% from the field and a season high 80% from deep knocking down eight of ten free throw attempts. Brooke Asher tallied a career best 21 points with 18 coming in the second half finishing 7-12 from the field and 6-7 from the free throw line while leading the team with five assists. Olivia Thompson put together a strong performance all around earning 14 points with five rebounds, four assists and a block. Lori Huffman led the team on the glass with eleven rebounds while Kayla Larimore matched her season best with seven points off the bench for the second consecutive game.

As a team, UNOH had the best shooting night in conference play this season hitting 48% from the field, 40% from outside and 80% from the charity stripe which included a perfect 14-14 in the second half.

UNOH will play four more games before the end of the year with the next three coming at home. Lawrence Tech will visit Lima on Saturday, December 6 followed by a non-conference showdown against Midway December 11 and a tussle with Defiance December 13. A trip to Grand Rapids to face Aquinas on December 17 will cap the 2025 portion of the season before the conference takes a 16-day break for the holidays.
