Home Sweet Home: Racers Snap Two-Game Road Skid

LIMA, OH - UNOH women's basketball made the most of their first home game since December 13 after taking back-to-back losses on the road. The Racers got hot in the second and used a massive 33-point third quarter to run away from Cleary Wednesday night, 96-69.

The Cougars led most of the first quarter but the final two minutes of the frame produced two ties and four lead changes as Cleary held a one-point advantage, 20-19, after one. It took just five seconds for UNOH to snag the first bucket of the second period and they didn't trail again. The Racers got hot offensively and hit 62% from the field in the quarter and 9-9 from the free throw line as they pushed their lead up to ten at the break.

The second half started with what would become one of the most dominate quarters of the season for UNOH. They improved on their incredible first half numbers by shooting 65% as a team including a five and a half minute stretch where they hit six of six three-point attempts and blew the lead open to 37 points. The frame ended with the Racers outscoring Cleary 33-13 allowing them to coast easily through the final period for a comfortable victory.

The night produced twelve triples for the Racer offense as they finished the game 46% from deep, both season highs. Brooke Asher and Olivia Thompson were responsible for seven of those three-pointers as the two combined to shoot 64% from range. Asher finished with a career high 23 points adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Thompson earned 15 with four rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Alysia Lawson had a special night leading the team with 24 points, including 8-8 from the charity stripe, while dishing out seven assists and pulling down six rebounds. Sanaiiya Gray had 15 and Lori Huffman tallied 13 as the two combined for 16 rebounds and four blocks on the night.

UNOH will try to build on their momentum when they host UM-Dearborn on Saturday, January 10.
