Women's Basketball Snaps Three Game Losing Streak

SOUTHFIELD, MI - After losing three straight against the top three teams in the conference, UNOH women's basketball got back on track Saturday afternoon topping Lawrence Tech 88-80 on the road. Coupled with their win in December, it is first time the Racers have defeated the Blue Devils twice in a season since 2013-14.

UNOH started hot and opened a 15-5 lead out of the gate staying in front through the entire first period. The Blue Devils began the second on a 9-2 run to take their first lead of the day, 21-20, less than two minutes into the period. The game pulled tight and the two teams traded blows with six lead changes and three ties but the Racers edged out a 40-38 lead at the break.

The battled spilled over into the second half with neither team holding more than a 6-point advantage in the third quarter. Despite the tight play that produced seven more ties and three lead changes, UNOH trailed for just 67 seconds in the frame and thanks to back-to-back Brooke Asher triples held a 66-60 lead after three.

The Racers managed to control the pace of the game in the final quarter going up by as many as ten points. The Blue Devils cut the gap to just five three times, but UNOH held them at arm's length to finish off their first road victory since November.

UNOH had their best three-point shooting night in more than two years knocking down eleven triples on 22 attempts. Five different Racers spashed from three led by Brooke Asher's 6-9 performance. Asher finished with a team high 23 points while dishing out six assists. Alysia Lawson bagged the first double-double of her storied career putting up 22 points and pulling down ten rebounds. Sanaiiya Gray put up 20 of her own while Olivia Thompson and Lori Huffman each chipped in ten.

UNOH wil play their third of three straight road games on Wednesday, January 28 when they head to Siena Heights for their final regular season matchup with the Saints.
