Women's Soccer Powers Through Cornerstone 3-0

LIMA, OH - UNOH scored two early before the weather conditions deteriorated and made things difficult at Racer Field. The Racers managed to fight of the weather and add one more in the second half for a 3-0 shutout of Cornerstone.

Conditions were manageable when the match first began and UNOH wasted no time getting themselves rolling. An early foul in the eighth minute set up a free kick for Patricia Blazquez. Blazquez put it close to goal giving the Cornerstone keeper a chance to get two hands on it first. The ball deflected up and Jasmin Tadina headed the ball back across the keepers face where Vivian Purmonen parried it into the back of the net. In 19th minute, the Racers took advantage of a poor goal kick that went straight to Nanna Rosengreen all by herself near midfield. Rosengreen took one touch and threaded the ball to Purmonen streaking into the box who went low under the keeper and into the bottom corner. After scoring twice on the first two shots of the game, the next five were unsuccessful and the game hit halftime 2-0.

Halftime was unkind as the weather degraded before the teams took the pitch again. Chances were hard to come by in the second half and the teams produced just one combined shot over almost 25 minutes of play. UNOH finally broke through for the final time in the 70th minute. Tadina took a ball right on the 18 line, turned around a defender and found Blazquez all by her self. From the top of the box, Blazquez took two dribbles and went top corner over the keeper. The game saw eight more shots down the stretch split evenly but the 3-0 score held.

UNOH outshot the Golden Eagles 12-7 with both teams putting four on goal.

Mireia Queralt (6-1-2) made three saves in front of goal earning her fifth solo clean sheet of the season.

The Racers have now blanked their opponent in five straight matches, the program's longest streak since 2016 (10), while outscoring their opponents 18-2 in the last six.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, UNOH will open a three-game road trip at Madonna next Wednesday, October 18. They follow with Lawrence Tech and Concordia before returning home to face Rochester in the regular season finale.
