Racers Rebound with Record-Shattering Performance

LIMA, OH - After a devasting loss to No. 11 Aquinas on Saturday, UNOH women's soccer responded with a resounding 18-0 win over Defiance Wednesday afternoon.

It took 24 minutes for the Racers to snare their first goal of the day but they needed just under three minutes after that to make it a 5-0 ball game. UNOH would go on to net eight times in the first half and were aided by an Defiance own goal that made it a 9-0 match at halftime.

Just 86 seconds into the second half, UNOH added a tenth and the goals started flowing again. Ten minutes was the longest interval between goals as the Racers finished off a record setting day with an 18-0 win.

The 18 goals is the program's most ever in a single game topping the previous record of 14 set last year. Those goals alone tied the single game record for total points in a match (36) but with the addition of 18 assists, also a program record, UNOH blew away the previous mark that stood since 2013 by 16 points garnering 52 on the day.

The Racers put 33 of their 54 shots on target, both the second most in a game (35/54 - 2024), with eight different players finding the back of the net.

Risa Nishida led the team with nine points, the program's most since 2021 (Ariana Mondiri), scoring her first three goals of the season while adding three assists. Nishida was joined by Vivian Purmonen and Svenja Jorg who also bagged hat tricks in the game. It is just the second time in program history with three hat tricks in the same match as the first came just over a year ago against Concordia. Alivia Chambers earned her first three assists of the season while Ella Betschon picked up the first two of her career.

UNOH will take to the road for their next two outings with a trip to Cornerstone on Saturday, October 4 followed by Lourdes on Wednesday.
