Volleyball: Racers Overpower Blue Devils in Four

SOUTHFIELD, MI - UNOH Volleyball (10-11, 3-6) picked up their first win over Lawrence Tech (10-11, 3-6) since 2017 on Saturday, October 2. The win completes the program's first Friday/Saturday WHAC sweep since 2019 after defeating Rochester Friday night.

After going back and fourth in set one, UNOH took the lead for the final time at 12-11 and never looked back for a 25-17 win. Trailing 16-11 at one point in set two, the Racers rallied five straight to even the game. After trailing most of the set, UNOH took the lead at 20-19 and held on for a 25-22 win and 2-0 lead in the match. The Blue Devils again jumped out early in the third, but the Racers wouldn't roll over winning seven straight set points after trailing 24-14. Lawrence Tech managed to hold on for a 25-21 win and force a game four. The fourth set stayed close, but UNOH never trailed winning 25-21 to take the match 3-1.

Logan Thomas (SO/Johnstown, Ohio) led the team with 14 points off eleven kills, two service aces and a solo block. Elli Roetgerman (FR/New Bremen, Ohio) and Abigail Martin (FR/Goshen, Indiana) each finished with 12.5 points in the match. Roetgerman recorded eleven kills and three block assists while Abigail Martin tallied twelve kills and one block assist. Anika Burke (SO/Chadron, Nebraska) hit a career high .538 with seven kills on 13 attacks and no errors. Burke also racked up a career high five block assists in the match. Savanna Reed (FR/Columbia City, Indiana) had a team high 21 assists and Casey Kingsland (SO/Blanchester, Ohio) added 19. Aubree Ricketts (JR/Plainfield, Illinois) continued her strong defensive performance with a game high 20 digs, putting her eighth all-time in career digs (1045).

"I'm really proud of this team," said Head Coach Josh Kreiner. "After a tough battle Friday night, they made a quick turnaround and played their best team match of the season today. Our pins were on and when we needed points our middles came through to get us those points. Aubree [Ricketts] continued to be solid for us defensively and we blocked well across the board. We played with confidence and got the result I thought we deserved. We have one more opportunity to make some noise before we get a week off. I'm looking forward to keeping our momentum rolling on Wednesday."

The Racers will roll into Livonia, Michigan on October 5, for an important match in the WHAC standings against Madonna.
