Racers Split Two at Racer Rumble

LIMA, OH - On the second weekend of the season, UNOH volleyball hosted Defiance and St. Mary-of-the-Woods in the Racer Rumble Friday, August 25. The Racers took down the Yellowjackets 3-1 before falling to the Pomeroys 3-0.

 

UNOH 3 Defiance 1 (18-25, 25-9, 25-22, 25-16)

After a slow start saw the Racers drop game one, they responded with a near flawless game two. UNOH finished with eleven kills on 22 attacks making no errors in their second 25-9 set win of the season. Defiance played tighter in game three and the set was tied 22-22 before the Racers finished off the final three points with two kills and a service ace. UNOH never trailed in the final game taking the match 3-1.

Logan Thomas led the team with 19.5 points racking up 17 kills, three block assists, and a service ace while hitting a season high .261. Hannah Colquitt hit .429 with seven kills and only one error on 14 swings. Taylor Reust and Abigail Martin each chipped in six kills in the match. Savanna Reed finished with 29 assists while recording a career high five service aces. 

As a team, UNOH tallied 18 service aces, the program's second most in a four-set match (Union - 8/26/22) and the third most all-time.

 

SMWC 3 UNOH 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-21)

The first game stayed close throughout, but SMWC scored the five of the final six points to go up 1-0. UNOH came out hot to start the second game taking a 5-1 lead early, but the Pomeroys scored ten straight to take control 11-5. UNOH rallied back to tie the game 22-22 but couldn't finish the comeback, losing 25-23. The third game was similar to the first two with the set staying close at 18-18 late. Again, it was SMWC throwing the final blow with a 7-3 run to finish the match in three.

Abigail Martin paced the Racers with 13.5 points. Martin used 13 kills, with four errors, on 29 swings to hit .310 in the match. Logan Thomas finished with ten points off eight kills, two block assists, and a service ace. Savanna Reed earned 30 assists with three kills and ten digs.

 

UNOH will head to Henderson, Tennessee next for four matches at the Freed-Hardeman Invitational. Friday, September 1, will see the Racers take on Fisk and UT-Southern before rounding out the trip with Rust and host Freed-Hardeman on Saturday.
