Racers Take Care of Business with 3-0 Sweep

SYLVANIA, OH - UNOH volleyball had to wait a week to rebound from a conference opening loss to No. 25 Indiana Tech last Wednesday, September 6. But, when they took to the hardwood again, the Racers were all business taking care of Lourdes, 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-17), in the first conference road trip of the season.

After giving up the first point in game one, the Racers took the lead 2-1 and didn't trail again. The Gray Wolves continued to fight, tying the match five times, before UNOH took control with four straight to go up 13-9. The Racers outscored Lourdes more than two-to-one the rest of the way to win the first set of the night, 25-14.

Again the Gray Wolves got on the board first in the second game, holding their lead to the 8-6 mark. With an early Racer timeout, UNOH made an adjustment and went on a 4-0 run to take back the lead 10-8. Lourdes battled back to go back up 12-11, but an 8-2 run from the Racers followed as they took a commanding 19-13 lead. UNOH scored their last six points with a balanced attack from Logan Thomas, Taylor Reust, and Abigail Martin who each had two kills in that stretch to take game two, 25-19.

For the third straight set, Lourdes scored the first point of the game. However, it would be the last time the Racers trailed in the match. A 9-3 run gave UNOH a five-point lead and they never looked back. Twice the Gray Wolves cut the lead to two points, but the Racers controlled for a 25-17 win and 3-0 sweep.

"We just came into the night with the mindset of playing well," said head coach Josh Kreiner following the match. "Good things happen when you play well and tonight we did that."

Logan Thomas and Elli Roetgerman led the team with 10.5 points. Thomas finished with nine kills off 26 swings with three errors (.231) adding one service ace and one block assist. Roetgerman had seven kills on 17 attacks with three errors (.235) recording three block assists and two solo blocks. Abigail Martin hit a season high .389 with eight kills and just one error on 18 swings. Martin also added a solo block and a block assist for 9.5 points in the match.

Madelyn Hampton led the team with eleven digs, matching her career best, while Aubree Ricketts and Logan Thomas each recorded double-figures.

UNOH continues their first full dish of conference games this weekend when they host Concordia Friday, September 15, at 7:00 PM and UM-Dearborn Saturday at 1:00 PM.
