Volleyball Takes Down UMD in Four
LIMA, OH - UNOH volleyball responded to their five-set loss to Concordia Friday night with a four-set win over UM-Dearborn less than 21 hours later.
The Racers only trailed twice, 2-1 and 3-2, in game one before pulling away from the Wolverines for a comfortable start to the match, 25-18. Game two started where the first left off as UNOH opened up a 9-3 lead early. UM-Dearborn fought back to tie the game at 13 and again at 17 keeping the set within reach. The Racers never surrendered the lead, however, and edged out a 25-23 win to go up 2-0.
Set three was close early on, but the Wolverines took control with a 10-2 run and the Racers couldn't close the gap. After dropping the third 25-15, UNOH was all business in set four going up 12-2 out of the gate en route to a 25-11 drubbing and 3-1 match win.
"It was good to see us wake up on a Saturday morning and play well," said head coach Josh Kreiner. "It's something we haven't been great at and finishing off a 2-1 week after dropping in five last night is huge."
Taylor Reust paced the Racers with back-to-back double-digit kill performances. Reust led all players with 17 points recording ten kills with four solo blocks, four block assists and a service ace. Logan Thomas finished with 13 points, her fifth straight double-figure outing and twelvth in 14 matches this season. Thomas had nine kills, two aces, two block assists and a solo block in the match.
Savanna Reed picked up 29 assists with three kills and three service aces adding twelve digs. Aubree Ricketts earned her second straight 20+ dig day and fourth of the season leading all players with 23.
"It wasn't a pretty game for us," Kreiner continued. "But, sometimes you play pretty and lose, like we did last night. Sometimes you play ugly and win, and we did that today. The only thing that matters is having a three next to your name when the match ends."
UNOH will try to put another three next to their name when they head to (RV) Aquinas next Friday, September 22. The Racers will square off with the Saints at 7:00 PM before wrapping up their Grand Rapids trip at Cornerstone on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
