LIMA, OH - UNOH volleyball returned home for the first time in two weeks and snapped a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Rochester.
The Racers led at the halfway point of game one 13-11, but the Warriors put together a 6-0 run to take over the lead 17-13. UNOH closed the gap to one three times but couldn't get their noses back in front as Rochester took the first game of the night 25-23. Game three started back-and-forth early on before the Racers shifted into gear and exploded for a 13-1, take a ten point lead, 18-8. The closest the Warriors could get was six points the rest of the way locking the match up 1-1.
UNOH didn't lead in game three until 14-13 and held that lead until Rochester tied things up at 23. Savanna Reed and Hannah Colquitt dropped the final two points for the Racers to put the team up 2-1. Trailing 6-5 early in the fourth, UNOH hit a 6-0 run again and didn't trail again. They scored the final four points thanks to kills by Taylor Reust and Savanna Reed followed by back-to-back aces for Alli Lopez to finish the off the match.
"I thought we stayed in our system better while forcing Rochester out of theirs," head coach Kreiner stated following the match. "We set the our middles 46 times tonight. That's a sign we're playing in our system and working the ball where we want it."
Logan Thomas got back on track with a game high 19.5 points. Thomas put down 18 kills on 41 attacks with a solo block and a block assist. Elli Roetgerman scored a season high 15 points matching her season best 13 kills with two block assists and a solo block. Hannah Colquitt hit season highs in points (10.5) and kills (8) earning three block assists and a solo block. Aliyah Saylor finished with 8.5 points while matching her career best with eight kills making just two errors on 21 swings (.286).
Savanna Reed led all players with 42 assists adding five kills, one ace and one block assist. Defensively, four Racers finished with double-digit digs. Aubree Ricketts led with 14 and Bailey Gregory earned a season high 13 while Savanna Reed and Ashlynn Cruz each finished with twelve, a career high for Cruz.
"We had all four of our freshmen step up tonight," Kreiner continued. "Alli with her big aces late, Aliyah hitting strong, Ashlynn digging and Madelyn passing on serve-receive, something that doesn't show up in the box score. It's exciting to see that contribution. I also loved seeing Logan bounce back after a tough road trip and to have Elli get some big swings. Everyone played their roles and made each other better tonight. That's what it takes to win."
UNOH will do a quick turnaround to host Lawrence Tech Saturday afternoon, September 30, at 1:00 PM in The Garage.
