UNOH Stands Tall but Comes Up Short in WHAC Opener

LIMA, OH - UNOH men's basketball battled tough with No. 21 Indiana Tech in their conference debut Wednesday night, but the Warriors proved too much in the end topping the Racers 98-88.

The first half played out like a heavy weight bout as the two teams went end-to-end and combined for a blistering 58% from the field. After trading 8-0 and 10-0 runs early in the half, the two settled into a game that stayed within two possessions and produced five ties and three lead changes. The half ended on a highlight for the Racers hitting a long range three-point bucket at the buzzer that made it a 47-45 contest in favor of Indiana Tech at the break.

The Warriors opened the second half with a 9-2 run that gave them the largest lead to that point, 56-47, but it was short-lived as UNOH battled right back to cut the lead to three at the 15:00 minute mark. The game play was put on repeat over the next six minutes with Indiana Tech rattling off a second 9-2 run to go up ten before the Racers shaved it back to three again, 74-71, with 9:19 to play. A final Warrior spurt landed the knock out blow as they pieced together the biggest streak of the night for either team, 11-2, that did enough to give them the biggest lead of the game, 85-73. This time, UNOH couldn't close the gap as Indiana Tech did enough to fend them off down the stretch and hold on for the 98-88 victory.

Antonio King led all scorers with 22 points, his fourth 20+ outing of the season, shooting a career best 77% (10-13) from the field with five boards and two assists. Kahlil Davis finished with 14 scoring all of his points in the second half and Caleb Chapman also chipped in a season high 14 off the bench. Chance Groce put up 13 off the bench followed by Ajani Washington and Alex Benson who scored twelve and eleven, respectively.

UNOH will have to try to get back in the win column on the road making trips to Rochester Christian Saturday, November 22 and Madonna on Tuesday, November 25.
