Racers Overcome the Elements in 5-1 Win

LIMA, OH - Through wind and rain UNOH overcame an early deficit to Cornerstone running away with a sloppy match for their largest margin of victory this season.

It took twelve minutes to produce the first shot of the game and the Golden Eagles made it count going up 1-0 early. Another ten minutes passed before UNOH mustered their first official shot of the game. It came after a foul in the box put Tomas Echevarria on the spot and he converted on the first penalty kick of his career. Just moments later, Cornerstone turned the ball over near midfield and Diego Cerezo jumped on it. Cerezo took one touch between the legs of a defender and rocketed the ball downfield. The pass hit Echevarria in stride on the edge of the box and put the ball past the keeper before he could react. After three goals on three shots to start the game, things tightened up with the teams combining for just three more before halftime with the score still 2-1 at the break.

In the 57th minute, Echevarria again went on attack but a sliding defender deflected the ball away. It rolled right in front of Leonardo El Ayche who struck it first time and blasted it into the back of the net for his first career goal. Echevarria wasn't done creating as he dribbled from the right side of the 18 and connected with Cerezo by himself right in front of goal. The keeper couldn't react in time and Cerezo notched his third goal of the season. Bjarne Renner gave the Racers one more in the 79th minute, bending a corner kick under the far post for his third goal of the week.

UNOH held the Golden Eagles to a season low three shots putting up 20 of their own, ten on goal, for the second time in two games.

Madonna will visit Racer Stadium for UNOH's next match on Wednesday, October 18, at 3:00 PM.
