Women's Basketball Clinches Third Post Season Bid in Four Years

DEFIANCE, OH - UNOH women's basketball officially clinched a spot in the WHAC Tournament with a 75-67 victory at Defiance on Saturday. It will be the program's third post season appearance in four years of the Vavro Era and locks up consecutive winning seasons for the first time since the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns.

Halfway through the first quarter, just one point separated the teams but the Racers finished the second half of the frame by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 14-5 to go up by ten after one. The lead was pushed up to 17 in the second but Defiance closed the first half on an 11-1 run that cut the lead back to seven at the break.

Out of halftime, UNOH managed to get their lead back into double-digits where it hovered most of the third quarter. The Racers matched their largest lead of the night, 58-40, just a minute into the final frame but Defiance began chipping away. The deficit was down to ten with just under three minutes left to play, but UNOH managed to fend off the final push to earn an eight-point victory.

Junior Olivia Thompson scored a career high 23 points to lead the Racers offensively. She shot 6-9 from the field and 10-11 from the stripe while also earning five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Kayla Larimore recorded her own career best with 15 points and three rebounds off the bench. Jordan Mueller and Brooke Asher chipped in 13 and twelve, respectively, while Lori Huffman dominated the glass with a game high 15 rebounds and nine points.

With post season seeding on the line, UNOH will try to get another win on the road when they travel to Cleary on Wednesday, February 11.
