Women's Basketball Season Closes with Loss in WHAC Quarterfinals
SYLVANIA, OH - UNOH women's basketball saw the 2025-26 season come to a close Wednesday night with a 71-62 loss to Lourdes in the WHAC Quarterfinals.
The Racers began with an early 5-2 advantage but a quick 9-1 spurt for the Gray Wolves gave them a lead they would never relinquish. Just five points separated the teams after one and the game stayed tight halfway through the second, but Lourdes finished the half strong with 10-4 run that increased the gap to nine points, 34-25.
UNOH was held at bay as the lead continued to hover between seven and twelve points throughout the entirety of the third quarter. The Gray Wolves continued to pull away and outscored the Racers 12-4 over the first four minutes of the fourth pushing their lead up to 19 points with 6:08 to play. UNOH wasn't ready to roll over and fought back within seven, 69-62, but their 11-0 run was cut short by the clock as time ran out on the comeback ending the season with a loss in the WHAC Quarterfinals.
Freshman Brooke Asher was strong in her first post season appearance leading all scorers with 24 points. Asher shot 8-13 (62%) from the field while knocking down four or seven triples and hitting all four free throw attempts. Olivia Thompson finished with 15 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds while Jordan Mueller scored twelve and grabbed five boards with four assists.
Lori Huffman added eight rebounds to her season total ending the year with 108 offensive boards, 217 defensive boards and 325 total rebounds, all the program's most ever by a freshman. Her 11.6 average this season marks a new UNOH record as the highest in a single season through both the men's and women's programs. Sanaiiya Gray tallied seven rebounds and seven boards while blocking two more shots giving her 66 in her freshman campaign, 13 more than the program's previous record.
UNOH concludes the best two-year span in program history earning 38 wins, a program record, and back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2013-14 and 2014-15 and just the third time ever. The Racers' appearance in the WHAC Tournament this year gives the program consecutive post season bids for the first time since the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns.
