LIMA, OH - UNOH women's soccer scored twice in the first half and once in the second to finish off a 3-0 win over Siena Heights Saturday afternoon, the program's first win over the Saints since 2020.
It took less than six minutes for the Racers to strike first set up by a corner kick. Celia Catalan Keck sent a well delivered cross into the box but it somehow avoided everyone and took a bounce in front of goal. The hop cleared the traffic and landed right in front of Ella Beaton-Hill just outside the far post who hit the ball back across the goal and into the top corner. Keck was credited with an assist on the goal giving her the WHAC lead with eight this season.
Vivian Purmonen continued her recent run of good form doing most of the work herself for goal number two in the 28th minute. Purmonen took a throw in and immediately got the ball back, beating four defenders off the dribble as she worked her way towards the box. Just before she got there, Purmonen pushed the ball to the top of the 18 to her teammate Camila Rico who lifted it over the defenders on her first touch and back to Purmonen once again. A quick chest down was enough to control the ball before Purmonen used the outside of her foot to push it past the keeper and into the net. She has now scored in four of the last six matches with six total goals in that stretch.
The two-goal difference held until late in the match when Rico facilitated for her teammates one more time in the 75th minute. Off a controlled dribble, Rico found Svenja Jorg just inside the box moving to the left. As the defender closed on the pass, Jorg backhealed the ball into space where Risa Nishida met it in stride. A first time strike gave the keeper no chance for Nishida's fourth goal of the year.
Sophia Eisner (10-2-0) made two saves over 90 minutes in front of goal to pick up her eighth clean sheet of the year, the program's most by an individual in a season since 2019 (Lisa Venrath - 12).
With four games to play, UNOH remains in a tie Lourdes at the top of the table with records of 6-1. The Racers will stay home to host fourth-place Madonna (4-1-2) on Wednesday, October 15 before finishing next week with their final road contest of the regular season at Rochester Christian on Saturday.
